A branched pore kinetic model applied to the sorption of metal ions on bone char

چکیده
A slightly modified form of the branched pore model of Peel, Benedek and Crowe was successfully applied to describe the batch sorption kinetics of three metal ions—cadmium, copper and zinc—on bone char. In comparison with an analytical film-surface solution, the additional parameters of the branched pore model were observed to produce a significant improvement in correlating the experimental results. The ranges of the values of the model parameters derived were deemed reasonable and the branched pore sorption capacities of two of the three metal ions were comparable (ca 0.16 mmol g−1). Given that the surface diffusivities of the metal ions were observed to vary with averaged surface loading, a number of correlations were examined for their accuracy in describing this behaviour. The exponential expression of Neretnieks resulted in the smallest total error when the data for all three metal ions were considered together. 2005 Society of Chemical Industry

On the importance of surface chemistry and composition of bone char for the sorption of heavy metals from aqueous solution
This paper reports new insights on the role of the inorganic composition of Bone char (BC) on its sorption properties for the removal of heavy metals Cd, Ni, and Zn ions from aqueous solution. In particular, we showed the importance of both composition and surface chemistry of BC on its sorption properties for the removal of these metal ions in aqueous solution. Results of physicochemical chara...
متن کاملKinetic study of heavy metal ions removal from aqueous solutions using activated pumice stone
Background: The presence of heavy metals in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems causes harmful effects to living organisms in the environment. This research aimed to determine the potential of activated pumice stone (APS) as a sorbent for the removal of Cd, Cu, and Zn from wastewater. Methods: This research was conducted during 2013 on a laboratory scale. The study was performed using batch exp...
متن کاملFixed Bed Column Modeling of Cd(II) Adsorption on Bone Char Using Backward Bayesian Multiple Linear Regression
In this work, the backward Bayesian multiple linear regression (BBMLR) as a new approach is presented to predict the adsorption efficiency (AE) of Cd(II) ions by ostrich bone char (OBC) in the fixed bed adsorption with four operational variables consisting of pH (2-9), inlet Cd(II) concentration (Co= 25-100 mg/L), bed depth (h= 3-9 cm) and feed flow rate (Q= 0.5-30 mL/min). The performance of t...
